AORE is requesting members to review the newly released draft of the Wilderness First Responder Scope of Practices document. Please support this extremely important effort and show the wilderness medical community that the AORE has a vested interest in the outcomes of these new course SOP’s. Tim Mertz, Vice President

Tim Mertz is currently the Assistant Director for Recreation at the University of Wisconsin – Stout in Menomonie, Wisconsin.
Tim has been teaching, guiding and programming within the Outdoor Recreation industry for 7 years. After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Recreation from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale in 2001, Tim moved to Alaska and worked as a sea kayak guide through Alaska’s Prince William Sound and then into the Apostle Islands of Lake Superior. Tim returned to Graduate school in 2005 and received a degree in Exercise Physiology while working as a Graduate Assistant for Outdoor Programs at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Tim worked as the Stout Adventures Coordinator at UW-Stout for 3 years before taking on the role of Assistant Director. In that time Tim has presented at several conferences for AORE and the WEA. Tim is an active paddler and can be found floating coastal shorelines, inland lakes and rivers 12 months out of the year – even in the Midwest.
