Steve Hawkins has been working in the outdoor industry for more than 20 years. He is currently the Assistant Director of the Outdoor Adventure Center at The Ohio State University and has been working in this capacity since its inception in 2004.

Steve spent 12-years as an ocean lifeguard at Huntington State Beach in California and an additional 2-year time as a state park ranger on the North Coast of San Diego, California. His passion for teaching and mentoring students has also been expressed in his six years of being a collegiate level swim coach.

As the first director of the Outdoor Adventure Center, Steve has focused on student development, creating an empowered student instructional staff, and turning OSU students on to the outdoors and adventure sports. Through Steve’s leadership, the OAC has become a model outdoor program focused on creating a welcoming environment and providing opportunities for students to shine.
