National Office

National Office is officially in the NEW Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan! Our new address is 1100 N. Main St, Suite 111, Ann Arbor, MI, 48104.

The NEW (Nonprofit Enterprise at Work) Center provides many resources to nonprofits, one of which is providing office space. By being located in the NEW Center, the National Office will have increased capacity to serve member needs. The NEW Center provides us access to a range of nonprofit services from training to industry best practices which is timely in light of the positive changes in the Association.

National Office Staff

The AORE National Office consists of Executive Director, Jeannette Stawski, Office Manager, Laura Matney, and Executive Assistants Kaeda Grace and Peter Ward.

Jeannette Stawski is a Leave No Trace Master Educator, a National Outdoor Leadership School Instructor, a Wilderness Medical Training Center Wilderness Medicine Instructor, and an Emergency Medical Technician. Jeannette completed 11 years as the Director of Outdoor Adventures at the University of Michigan. Prior to working for the U of M and Jeannette worked for 5 summers as a professional outdoor guide. She has mentored over 500 participants while leading multiple extended programs. She has spent over 250 days in the backcountry in Tennessee, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Washington, New Zealand, and Alaska. She also worked for three summers as a professional whitewater guide with over 1,600 river miles on class I-IV Rivers.

Laura Matney has spent her career in the nonprofit and outdoor industry. She holds an MBA in Nonprofit Management from Eastern Michigan University as well as a BS in Mathematics from the University of Michigan. She has spent the past three years at the Institute for the Study of Children, Families and Communities at Eastern Michigan University. There she worked on multiple grant projects where her primary focus was on nonprofit capacity building and youth wilderness leadership programs. A highlight of her work was creating and establishing high school wilderness programs for two low income schools in the area. Laura was previously the Director of Agree Outpost Camp, a wilderness leadership program for high school students. Additionally, she has led youth trips in many areas of the Northern US and Canada.

Kathleen (Kaeda) Grace is a sophomore at the University of Michigan. She found her love for the outdoors during her 4 years at Cranbrook, where she began leading backpackin g trips. When Kaeda came to the University of Michigan last fall, she got involved with Outdoor Adventures, where Kaeda continues to feed her love for adventure and mentor new trip leaders. Through her work with the AORE, Kaeda has realized that her love of the outdoors can be a lifestyle, so she plans to stay very involved in the industry. Kaeda is majoring in psychology and developing a concentration in Adventure Education.

Peter Ward is a junior studying Political Science and Environmental Science at the University of Michigan and is interested in environmental policy and environmental education. His family has always been active outdoors, and he enjoys spending his summers sailing, paddling and fishing in Northern Michigan. Peter is a captain of the University of Michigan Alpine Ski Team and works for Outdoor Adventures where he continues to lead trips, work the rental center and instruct climbing classes. Peter is currently away on a semester in wilderness medicine with Aerie Backcountry Medicine.

Sam DeMarco is earning his Masters in Public Administration with a concentration in Nonprofit Management from Eastern Michigan University. He earned his B.S. in 2008 and worked in the public relations field for political and nonprofit clients before returning back to school. He has a passionate interest in framing language and how it can be used to achieve goals. He joined the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education team in January 2012 as an intern. Gaining experience at program planning, implementation and evaluation is a primary goal he hopes to achieve while interning. Sam moved from his home in New Orleans to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 2000. He loves to travel and also enjoys learning about new cultures and trying different foods from all parts of the country and world. He likes reading political books and classic novels, watching movies, cooking (his spaghetti recipe is the best – hands down) and exercising.
