Aore 2011 Highlights
Bike Summit
The 2011 AORE Bike Summit is a moderated forum designed to create
productive dialogue about the status of the cycling industry and its relation
to AORE members and organizations. This summit will bring together experts in
the industry to provide answers to questions generated by the membership
regarding industry practices, training, facility management, equipment and
parts, and programming.
The intent of this summit is to provide an opportunity
for the AORE membership to address questions, seek answers, and debate topics pertaining to
the development and management of contemporary bicycle centric programs.
Specifically, the forum will provide panelists with an exclusive look at the
scope and influence of the AORE membership in the
arenas of cycling advocacy, participant introduction and instruction, and
program management. Come partake in this exciting opportunity bringing the
cycling industry and the AORE closer together.
The intended outcomes for the Bike Summit are:
1. Bring the
AORE membership and the cycling industry closer into alignment.
2. Educate the cycling industry on the scope and
influence of the AORE membership.
3. Address
common issues specific to cycling and mountain biking program management among
the AORE collegiate, university, military, and municipal recreation membership.
4.
Educate the AORE membership on practices and
industry standards for the management of cycling and mountain biking programs.
Keynote Speakers:
Dudley Edmondson
Dudley
Edmondson has spent the last 19 years as a freelance photographer,
photographing nature and wildlife subject around the country. Many of his
images have graced the pages of natural history publications around the world
from the U.S to Australia. Today his work has taken on a new dimension and
encompasses so much more. Today he has
added people to his regular list of subjects.
Dudley feels that as a photographer his camera provides a tool for
shaping the opinions of others. He is
particularly interested in influencing the way ethnically diverse people see
themselves and the way the world sees them. When he’ s not behind a camera you
can often find him outdoors cycling, kayaking, skiing, hiking or trail running.
Sam Drevo
When he is not
traveling in pursuit of first or last descents and documenting them with photos
and video, you can find Sam based in Oregon City teaching paddle sports. Sam
builds his curriculum off of twenty years of paddling experience, and brings
with him a rich foundation and understanding of the competitive world of
paddling. These experiences afforded him opportunities to teach and guide
across the country and abroad. He is a American Canoe Association Instructor
Trainer, a Rescue 3 Swiftwater Rescue Instructor, and has been trained as
a Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor and a Wilderness First Responder. As an
expedition kayaker and photographer he will share images and stories from some
of the most harrowing kayaking and rafting expeditions / descents of the last
decade including the world record descent of Palouse Falls, and Condit
Dam. Sam has also worked with Team River Runner, Blinded Veterans of
America, and Disabled American Veterans. These experiences resulted in
mental, physical, and interpersonal insights that enlighten his work today, and
underscore the importance of building diversity into our outdoor programs.
